LGBTIQ+ Health: A Life-Changing Passport for Gender-Affirming Care
Some marketing projects change brands; others change lives. When LGBTIQ+ Health approached MIH to develop the Genders, Bodies, and Relationships Passport, we knew this was far more than a design project.
This first-of-its-kind document would empower members of trans, intersex, and gender diverse communities to have control over their health decisions, communicating crucial information to health providers to drive fair treatment and appropriate care, as required by Australian law.

- Print design for a passport-style document to be distributed to healthcare providers.
- Accessible content to ensure suitability for a diverse range of community members.
- Focus on functionality to create a document that would be easy to use and update for the holder.
- Design refresh six years after the initial project, keeping the Passport current and relevant.
The Gender, Bodies, and Relationships Passport needed to function as an official document distributed to a wide range of health professionals.
Knowing the impact this document would have on its holders - putting them solely in charge of their health information - we understood the importance and sensitivity of the task at hand.
With just six weeks to generate a mock-up, we got to work designing content that would be accessible, functional, and usable while remaining discreet.
We created a highly functional printed Passport that provides clear information about the rights of intersex, trans, and gender diverse people, with the ability to include and update additional information that may affect their care.
From reception areas to community spaces, the free-of-charge Gender, Bodies, and Relationships Passport now drives clear communication around a patient’s healthcare requirements, ensuring they receive the quality of care they need in a respectful and appropriate manner.
